The 2023 Young Art Exhibit will celebrate the creative talent in this community and the achievements of our young (and young at heart!) artists. The exhibit will officially open to the public on Saturday, April 29, 2023, with an opening event from 1:00-3:00pm. The new exhibit will feature drawings and installation pieces by participants in La Casita’s Open Studio, Art as Mindfulness, and STE(A)M programs.

The opening event will showcase live performance, including an original play, “Push, Pull, Together, Apart” performed by SU Drama students and Theater for the Very Young, produced in collaboration with Syracuse Stage. Designed for young audiences and their families, this 30-minute interactive play is about connections and how we connect with each other and our world. There will be a second performance of the play at La Casita on Sunday, April 30, at 2:00pm.

La Casita will also welcome the Write Out program and youth from the Northside Learning Center and Girls, Inc. at the YWCA, exhibiting an installation piece that is inspired by their writings in this year’s workshops. In addition, Write Out will have a special presentation including readings by the program’s youth and release of their new chapbook on May 2nd starting at 5:30pm at La Casita.

A team of Museum Studies students will bring fun artmaking activities for the whole family to enjoy at the opening event, as part of their MUS708 course, Public Learning in Museums, led by Prof. Alix Ferrer-Yulfo.

Light refreshments will be served at the event, and free parking is available. This event is free and open to the public.
