La Casita provides artists, scholars and researchers the opportunity to engage with the local Hispanic Community and use the various resources in our Library and Archives.
Community Engaged Scholars
Syracuse University faculty, students and alumni contribute immensely to La Casita’s programming and operations, establishing close relations with members of the Hispanic community and partner organizations across the city of Syracuse and the CNY region. In addition to the public impact of their dedicated efforts, they also gain hands-on experience in their chosen fields of study and career paths.

NY Heritage
La Casita Cultural Center represents an important part of New York’s cultural heritage by preserving and celebrating the traditions, history, and resilience of Puerto Rican and broader Latino communities within the state. Inspired by the Casita movement that originated in Spanish Harlem and the South Bronx, La Casita continues a uniquely New York tradition of creating community-centered cultural spaces that honor Caribbean architecture, foster artistic expression, and strengthen neighborhood identity.
Located in Syracuse’s historic Lincoln Building, the Center extends this legacy beyond New York City, serving as a bridge between generations through cultural programming, educational initiatives, music, dance, literature, and community engagement
